The Salary to be paid to the person engaged shall be at the rate of Two thousand four hundred dollars ($2400) per annum with a Chair allowance of $24 per month; half salary to commence from date of leaving England, and full salary and the Chair allowance from the date of arrival in the Colony. The Government shall have power at any time to terminate this Agreement upon giving to the person engaged three months' notice in writing or paying him a sum equal to three months' Salary in lieu of Notice.

A free first Class Passage shall be provided for the person engaged to Hong Kong and on the expiration of his term of engagement, or if this Agreement shall be terminated by the Government under the preceding Clause, the Government shall provide the person engaged with a free first Class passage to England provided his conduct shall have been satisfactory during his service, and shall also pay to him half salary during the time occupied on the Voyage home; and in the event of his being compelled at any time during the period of Three years to resign his appointment and return to England on account of illness not caused by any impropriety of conduct on his part and producing a Certificate from the Colonial Surgeon to that effect, he shall be provided with a free first Class passage to England; but if he should resign his appointment from any other cause, he shall refund to the Government or to the Crown Agents for the Colonies the amount paid for his passage to the Colony. The return passage must in all cases be claimed within two months of the expiration or sooner determination of this Agreement.

If the person engaged shall at any time neglect or refuse or from any cause (other than illness not caused by his own impropriety of conduct) be unable to perform or comply with all or any of the Articles of this Agreement or all or any of the duties required of him, or all or any of the Orders or directions of the Government or its representatives, or shall correspond verbally or otherwise directly or indirectly in or about the affairs of the Government with any person not in the employment of the Government, or shall publish directly or indirectly any document or information of any kind whatever affecting the Government, or shall in any manner misconduct himself, it shall be competent for the Government to declare his employment at an end and he shall be forthwith dismissed by the Government and all rights, benefits, and advantages reserved to him by this Agreement shall cease; and he shall be liable to be called upon to repay the amount paid for his passage to the Colony.

The person engaged agrees to make no claim on the Government or on the Crown Agents for the Colonies in respect of the fluctuations in the value of the dollar.

The said Crown Agent for the Colonies shall not be personally liable for anything contained in this Agreement.
